Prediction of dominant cracks using the smeared crack concept

The nonlinear analysis of shear-critical reinforced concrete beams involves some serious complexities when their failure behaviour is governed by one or a few dominant cracks. The ability of the DIANA finite element package to predict the behaviour of such beams is examined.
