Numerical simulation of breach growth in sand-clay dikes

Research has been conducted in The Netherlands since 1989 to develop a breach growth model in order to apply probabilistic methods to sea defences. An important factor in the assessment of damage costs is the speed and rate of inundation of a polder. The breach growth process determines this rate.
